On August 4 and August 5 2008, Tokyo's Nippon Budokan complex hosted a concert program of music pieces created by Studio Ghibli's Joe Hisaishi for the 9 films directed by Hayao Miyazaki. Hisaishi was accompanied by a 200-piece orchestra and 400 chorus singers. Miyazaki's manga version of Nausicaä was written over a period of 12 years, with breaks taken to work on Studio Ghibli movies. Serialised in Tokuma Shoten's Animage magazine, the first chapter was published in February 1982, and the last chapter in March 1994. The manga has sold more than 10 million copies in Japan alone.
